Living What You Believe – DISCIPLESHIP

BECOMING A FIVE STAR CHRISTAN

The word “Christian” appears three times in God’s word.

1 Peter 4:16 – “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be

ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.”

Acts 11:26- “And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch.

And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the

church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians

Acts 26:29-“And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but that

hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except

Becoming a Christian is, according to II Co.5:17, a life-changing decision.

It is a transformation from the inside out. Religion tries to change you from

the outside in, but becoming a Christian means we are entering into a

personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He alone can change a

person from the inside out.

Becoming a Christian is as simple as the ABC’s.

A= ACCEPT/ Romans 3:23

B=BELIEVE/ Romans 5:8

C=CONFESS/ Romans 10:13

A person becomes a Christian by turning to God in repentance and by faith

receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. It is a personal

relationship, not a religious ritual. Relationships take work to grow into

The Christian life is a process of learning and growing. II Pt. 1:5-7 talks

about adding to your faith. We must add to that saving faith some things.

First century believers started out the same way, by learning and growing.

They grew into Five Star Christians and into favor with God.

Acts 2:41-47 will help us to see what a Five Star Christian does.

Acts 2:41-47 “41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the

same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they

continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking

of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders

and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and

had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted

them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one

accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their

meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favor

with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should

be saved.”

APOSTLES’ DOCTRINE- The word of God. What we call today the Bible.

FELLOWSHIP- The Church. Being an active part of the Body of Christ.

PRAYERS- Praying. Talking to God.

SOLD & PARTED- Giving. Tithes & Offerings.

HOUSE TO HOUSE- Witnessing. Going about telling others.

It is not an obligation or a duty, it is our reasonable service. (Romans 12:1-2)

It should be done with a heart of love

If you want what they had, you must do what they did.

To become a FIVE STAR CHRISTIAN should be the goal of every Christian.

Below are three of the disciplines of becoming a Five Star

Christian

I. FAITHFULNESS IN BIBLE READING

Acts 2:41-47 “steadfastly…apostles doctrine”

Acts 17:11 “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word

with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

“readiness of mind” Does your mind wander when you read or pray?

II Co.10:5 “…and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

“searched the scriptures daily” Why is morning a good time?

Ps. 63:1 “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee:”

Fruit of Faithful Bible Reading

 Faith in the Lord

 Direction for Life

 Understanding in the working of the Lord

 Deliverance from personal battles

 Spiritual Growth

II. FAITHFULNESS IN YOUR PRAYER LIFE

Acts 2:42 “in prayers”

In Lk. 18:1 Jesus says’ “that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”

That is faithfulness! Why do we not pray? We do not believe.

Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty

things, which thou knowest not.” God will show us great and mighty things if we will just ask Him.

Matthew 7:7-8 ask, seek, knock

Fruit of a Faithful Prayer Life

 Victory and spiritual growth in the lives of others

 The blessing of God on our lives

 Closeness to the Lord

 Power in the preaching and teaching of God’s Word

 Defense against the devil

 Rewards in Heaven

III. FAITHFULNESS IN YOUR CHURCH ATTENDANCE

Acts 2:42 “in fellowship” Psalms 92:13 “Those that be planted in the house of

the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.”

POTTED vs. PLANTED

Limited Growth/Unlimited Growth,

Unproductive/Productive,

Passing/Permanent

Psalms 1:3 “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth

his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Eph.4:14 “tossed” Heb.13:9 “carried”, “established”

Fruit of Faithful Church Attendance

 Encouragement for the Christian life

 Fellowship with God’s people

 Protection from the world, the flesh, and the devil

 Opportunity for Christian service

 Joy in the believer’s life
